We wanted to share Inner Winter wisdom from the ‘temple of menstruation’, to support you to drop more deeply into the winter of the year (or if you’re in the Southern hemisphere, to drop more deeply into menstruation or dark moon rest).
As you enter into the heart of menstruation, you go into deep winter, the midnight hour or dark moon of your soul, where all is quiet and still. At this time we say that all the outer ‘lights’ of the world – your attention to mundane or material life – have been dimmed and your inner ‘lights’ are now blazing.
These inner lights are the awakening of your feelings, your needs, and the calling of your soul.
Hallelujah! The moment of utter presence to yourself – of putting yourself first and others second – has arrived. It can be an extraordinary illumination, exposing all that lies in the shadows of you: the uncared for, the unacknowledged, and your beauty, wholeness and belonging to something larger.
Your Best Ally here is Silence.
Ah bliss…no noise, no input from anything or anyone. It’s that simple, folks. Just simply having silence at menstruation, and that means even no music, just nothing at all (at least of what you can control) will naturally open up a glorious inner silence and spaciousness.
You’ll feel yourself slip inside something that feels sacred within yourself — it is your ‘inner temple’. You enter a metaphorical cave, which muffles the sounds of the world, and you can feel a real stillness, quiet and restedness.
Ideally, it’s great to be on your own but even if you are with your beloveds, enjoy silence together. Although we realise this may not be an option with children! But, could you find a way to ‘turn down the volume’ on how you at least relate to them?
Be creative with this.
Any reduction in noise is going to help you. You have such a fine sensing at menstruation, and that sensing is easily scrambled by noise and all the general doingness of life.
